The Cupertino Rotary Job Search Support Group

One example of a Vocational Services opportunity to serve the community is Cupertino Rotary’s Job Search Support Group.

Shock… stresses… loss of identity… These things (and more) can happen when a person loses their job. Yes, loss of identity… It’s true we are more than our job, but sometimes we don’t comprehend this until we experience job loss.

People who lose their jobs not only may feel shock, stress and loss of identity… but without a job, self worth is questioned… and they may also feel discouraged as time passes. Finding a new job seldom comes easily. As time passes without getting a new job, discouragement can lead to depression… which can affect one’s self-esteem, and even family relationships.

Cupertino Rotary Job Search Support Group isn’t a “therapy” group. They address the practical skills and proven actions one should take to get a job… and they also create a “community” in the Group that helps lift and revive spirits.  The program runs from September to June each year.  Hundreds of people have come through the “class” and have found jobs.  Although there are a number of organizations and groups that help the job seeker, Cupertino Rotary’s Job Search Support Group does things somewhat differently: they use a method which teaches an intense focus on the practice and value of informational interviewing (and networking) with working people. The program works! And the best thing, it’s free.

Cupertino Rotary’s Job Search Support Group program had been serving the greater community for the past ten years.  Every year 50% of the people attending the Group find jobs!  The Group has received a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Governor, and another Certificate of Recognition from the California State Legislature, as well as recognition from Rotary International.  Over the ten years, over 1000 people have attended the Job Search Support Group.
