District Governor Message

July marks the beginning of a new Rotary year, and I applaud every Club President as they begin their term. The enthusiasm, commitment, and focus of our Rotarians is contagious, and there is no doubt that the accomplishments of our Clubs in Rotary District 5170 will ‘Be a Gift to the World’.

This month’s District Cabinet meeting is slated for Wednesday, July 8, at the India Community Center, from 6 – 8pm. and will feature Brad Howard (Oakland Sunrise) as our keynote speaker. Brad was appointed as the 2015-2017 Rotary International Director for Zones 25 and 26. As a successful businessman, Brad understands the value our vocations bring in building personal and professional relationships through service. Our Cabinet meeting will be sponsored by PDG Dwight Perry and Perry’s Creative Promotions https://www.pinthis.com/.  With our new Event Management System, registration is simple – just click this link, http://events.rotarydistrict5170.org and you are there!
Our appreciation to Past District Governor Ed Jellen (Oakland #3), who led our District in the 2014/2015 Rotary year with the highest membership net increase we have seen in four years with 3,800+ members and growing. And, our District was #1 in Zone 26 in our Foundation giving. We continue to be a high performing District, thanks to the leadership of Rotarians, such as Ed.
And what better way to acknowledge the dedication of this great leader than to attend the July 15 Roast and Toast at Saratoga Springs. This event will also be a send-off of our Interactors as they leave for the Vietnam Soccer Ball Project.  District Interactors will deliver 2,400 soccer balls to children in Vietnam, and the entire trip will be covered by Rotary International reporter, Sallyann Price – beginning with our Roast and Toast event. So, make sure you do not miss out on this fun event!
The role of the District is to be a resource to our clubs, so we begin the Rotary year with two Grants Training Programs:  July 11 (8:30am – 12:30pm at the Los Gatos Lodge) and July 25 (8:30am – 12:30pm at AdMail Express).  Rotary International requires every club who writes a District or Global Grant to send at least one club represenatitive to one of the sessions. To reserve, contact District Administrator, Brittany Overbeck at 408.273.4577 or email brittany.5170@gmail.com.
To all our Rotarians, thank you for all you do! Take the opportunity every chance you get to ‘Be a Gift to the World’.  Rotarians make a difference!
